On the hunt for late chanterelles, I stumbled across an orange mushroom poking out of the soil. But upon picking it, I noticed it was thick and hefty, and with no gills or false gills. What the heck?
Ten minutes of scouring through native species of orange fungi, and I found a likely candidate! Lobster Mushroom! And hey, it’s edible! Together, Lady McFarmFace and I carefully went through half a dozen guides and verified my ID.
Best part? I came inside with these three not because that’s all I found, but because I didn’t know if they were worth collecting at all and it was getting dark. I saw at least half a dozen more. So I know what we are doing tomorrow!
